TO MUSIC

Music is the wondrous key

that constellates humanity;

a treasury of golden chains

which link all mortals through its strains:

a common language which we may

aspire to master, day by day,

its universal currency

engenders global harmony,

and wafts us to realms rich and rare,

where all may breathe the dulcet air,

speaking in accents grave and gay,

that recreate our work and play

transcending culture, class, or creed,

upbringing, border, birth or breed

for music lovers all unite

in shared enjoyment and delight,

while rapture at the players' arts

is shared by those who touch the hearts,

of those who listen. So we see,

that those who lack proficiency,

or skill, or deft musicianship,

are part of music's fellowship.

They also serve who only stand

and wait, and listen to the band.
